About Cantor Spreadfair House Price Confidence Index

The Cantor Spreadfair House Price Confidence Index is based on client predictions (this is based on the average price of bets placed on Cantor Spreadfair) of what the average UK and Greater London house price will be in December 2010. The Cantor Spreadfair Confidence Index is released on a monthly basis.

About Cantor Spreadfair House Prices

Cantor Spreadfair is the only spread betting exchange that allows clients to bet against each other on the movement of the average UK and London house prices, as determined by the Halifax house price survey.

Cantor Spreadfair's House Price bets are based on the quarterly Halifax House Price Index. Last week, the average UK House Price on Cantor Spreadfair was 166 to 169 for December 2010, equivalent to an Average UK house price of £166,000 to £169,000.

If you think prices will be above the higher price (£169k in the above example) then you "buy" or go high at 169. If you think prices will fall below the lower price (£166k in the above example) by December 2010, then you would "sell" at 166.

The minimum you can bet per point is £1 and you can bet anything in excess of that provided there is sufficient liquidity.

If you had sold at 166 for £1,000 per point and the Halifax settled the Average UK House Price at £163,000 (163) then you would make ((166-163) x £1000) = £3,000 less relevant commissions. If the result was £168,000, then you would lose ((166-168) x £1,000) = -£2,000, less relevant commissions.
